Tormented Silence

Two souls meet
In the darkness of time
Always one is led astray
Repeatedly to cause bitter strife.

  Lifelines meet and cross
Never once maintaining a parallel course
She loves him, worships him, fears him
What he feels no one knows for sure.

In spite of the best intentions
The heart once more spreads pain
She attempts to take it all in silently
Willing to accept whatever he will give her.

Love being the sharpest of double-edged swords
Once again it is she who bleeds
She bites her tongue as he walks away yet again
Determined not to beg him to stay or reveal her tears.

Time goes by and she remains alone
He still maintains his death-grip on her heart
Her smiles are rare and few and far between nowadays
He had taken her soul with him when he had left.

She has to force herself to continue forward into the future
What she would rather do is curl up and die
His face haunts her dreams unmercifully each night
How long before his ghost drives her insane?
